Spurs cruise past Rockets, 150-132, to set league best W/L record of 79-3; Dejounte Murray wins M-V-P & Coach Popovich wins COTY.

The Spurs came out firing as per usual, scoring 38-25 in the 1st Quarter, then 46-34 in the 3rd. Otto Porter got hot late, finishing with 25 points on 5-9 3PT. 

Brandon Ingram scored a fiery 35 points, going 15-20. Buddy Hield hit six threes for 26 points & 6 assists. Fred VanVleet had 16 points, hitting 4-5 3PTers, with Charles Bassey's 10 points off the bench. 

Andre Drummond devoured the glass with 17 rebounds. The Spurs shot 17-30 from 3PT range in the finale game of the season, and a stellar 61% overall from the field, leading by as much as 27 points.

With the Playoffs on the horizon, the Spurs look forward to having their superstar Point Guard back in the fold, as they also look forward to their longtime rival, Golden State Warriors, to bring one hell of a familiar fight in the first round.

The cherry on top to this historical season is Dejounte Murray winning MVP honors, with a stat line of 19.2ppg/4.6rpg/7.2apg/3.3spg. Fittingly, Coach Pop wins Coach of the Year once again. For Murray, he joins Andre Drummond (2x MVP). Only Brandon Ingram is left to hoist that individual accolade, and only time will tell next season. But first, San Antone has a title to defend, yet again. 

Spurs withstand early rush by Magic to stay undefeated at home, 87-100.

Throughout the entirety of the championship-caliber, title-delivering dynasty, the San Antonio Spurs have had some lengthy win streaks and impressive runs on their home court at AT&T Center.

But until this season, the champs have never pulled it off. San Antonio went a total of 41-0 at home this season, withstanding their fiercest rivals and overcoming double-digit deficits. This adds yet another notch to the championship belt that has run through the Spurs franchise over the last fifteen seasons.

The key to finally achieving this tremendous feat of basketball prestige, also an NBA record,  was the addition of even more perimeter shooting. The trio of Buddy Hield, Otto Porter & Fred VanVleet has been deadly, boosting the Spurs into the #1 spot in 3PT percentage of 30 teams.

Defenses have to guard all three scoring threats, since the trio has been in San Antonio's starting lineup for most of the season, barring injury or roster experimentation. As soon as an opening reveals itself, the Spurs capitalize and execute, as only the Spurs offensive scheme can, and does, and moreover has done: Spur-Fection throughout this dynastic reign.

A career high night by Buddy Hield, a 38-PT performance by Fred VanVleet and Otto Porter in the running for #6th man of the year all point to the passion and success of the San Antonio Spurs.

The Rest: 

San Antonio trailed 28-22 after the 1st Quarter, but Buddy Hield finished with 30 points, splashing in eight daggers from long range territory. Brandon Ingram had 17 behind him. Kris Dunn dished 10 assists, as the Magic went way cold hitting just 5-31 from 3PT. Both teams had a rough night shooting the ball, each at 39% FG overall. Orlando had 21 turnovers, though, losing the 3rd Quarter by a 30-12 margin. Brandon Clarke had 11 rebounds for the Spurs.

The Flex: Ingram powers Spurs past gutsy Rockets.

Brandon Ingram slammed the ball through the net, crashing to the hardwood alongside Christian Wood of the upcoming Rockets, winning a 1-PT nail-biter with a superstar performance. The Slender-Man finished with 38 points, 3 steals & 2 blocks, a thrilling relief given the absence of both Andre Drummond & Dejounte Murray.

Ingram played well again to top the Nets, with 19 points, setting the Spurs up for one final game at home, with history on the line. Fred VanVleet dropped 38 points with 14 assists on the Nets, who were led by 36 points from Kyrie Irving. Andre Drummond had 24 points & 24 rebounds.

San Antonio overcame the Orlando Magic on the road, and will have to do it one more time. The dynastic champions have set a new league record with 46 consecutive wins, outdoing their own team record from six years ago. In the first victory, the Spurs were led by 28 from Ingram.

Ingram will play the superstar role, given Murray's absence until the playoffs begin. Andre Drummond's physicality helped power the Spurs past the Golden State Warriors, the latest of tough home defenses to end the season. The Warriors played well in the 1st Quarter, then went down big, cut the lead down to 4 points, before falling behind again for good due to Buddy Hield's nine daggers from deep. Kevin Love had a solid 22 points, with 19 by Trey Burke. Ingram had a firm sixteen with 3 steals.

Fittingly, should San Antone succeed at making history, yet again, they will take one final trip on the road to Houston for the rubber match. The Spurs currently stand at 77-3, with just two games left to play. Another championship run appears to be a certainty, but they won't let their guard down, since the last time got them into a seven-game war with the Memphis Grizzlies.

Spotlight: Dejounte Murray’s Declaration

As the Spurs finish out the regular season, Dejounte Murray decided to reestablish himself as the leader of the team with impressive performances that propelled San Antonio past opponents with ease. He had 29 points against the Clippers, as the Spurs scored 151 as a team, a season-best.

Against the Heat, Murray had 32 points, 7 rebounds, 12 assists, 7 steals & 3 blocks as the Spurs cruised to a 136-112 road victory.

Then, the basketball powers-that-be helped set up a stiff screen, snaking Murray’s bicep so badly that he’ll miss 1-2 weeks, forced to sit until the season wraps up. Kris Dunn, Fred VanVleet and Matthew Dellavedova will be called upon to shepherd the remaining 7 games for the Spurs. Moreover, Coach Pop in trademark fashion is also opting to rest Drummond and possibly Ingram in the final games of the season, to ensure they are ready to fire on all cylinders.

Will the Spurs remain undefeated at home and make history once again? Their biggest test left will be the Golden State Warriors and Brooklyn Nets, as Klay Thompson continues to strike back after his injury and Ben Simmons gets a rhythm with his new team. The Spurs will need Andre Drummond and Brandon Ingram to lead the way, with both having strong showings intermittently so far this season, as the Spurs star trio has dominated the M-V-P race. 

Spurs cook 76ers to win 40th in a row, after overcoming Pelicans.

San Antonio found themselves in quite the hole down by 18 points versus New Orleans. But with a tenacious team effort and strong defensive intensity, they battled back to take the lead, raise it to 12 and keep it there. Next up, Philadelphia paid a visit, the biggest threat to the undefeated home streak, but got buried after a stalemate 1st Quarter.

The Sixers lost big time, 140-96, due to a cold shooting night by James Harden (20 points, 9-19 FG, 2-7 3PT). Joel Embiid had just 18 points and 9 rebounds in the defeat. In the loss, Georges Niang had 18 points & Tobias Harris spotted a 13-pt, 15-reb performance. They lost the 2nd Quarter, 36-24, then the second half: 79-47, making 9-28 from 3PT range.

The Spurs poured it on with 22 shots made from deep, led by Dejounte Murray (23pts, 9rebs, 12asts, 4stls). Otto Porter, Jr., salvaged a cold first half to finish with 21, hitting 5-11 from long range. Fred VanVleet had 20, hitting six bombs, and so did Brandon Ingram. The Big Penguin notched 11 points and 15 rebounds with a key block on Harden. Trey Burke scored 11, with Kevin Love scoring 10 & 9 rebounds.

Spurs win 35th straight game, as Drummond crushes Hornets defense.

The Spurs continue to fine-tune their roster, giving Juancho Hernangomez & Kris Dunn some time to impress on 10-day contracts, with the latter arguably solidifying a spot on the team and producing better than Jeff Teague did earlier in the season, before being waived to make room for Trey Burke. Burke has excelled after a rocky start, finding his groove in a backup SG role, dropping 26 points. Dunn also had a flashback of his career high back in 2019, dishing 17 assists once again, which impressed the Spurs. His defensive intensity is also appreciated, causing rumors of the Spurs possibly moving on from Matthew Dellavedova and replacing him with a different positional player as the playoffs loom.

The NBA Trade Deadline also is on the horizon, with the Clippers shaking things up to get Robert Covington & Norman Powell from the troublesome Portland Trail Blazers. Meanwhile, the Ben Simmons saga continues in Philadelphia, with the Milwaukee Bucks & Los Angeles Lakers fighting to gain a contender's edge toward the playoffs. The Spurs remain vigilant as well, keeping an eye on any opportunity to improve the lineup for its championship defense.

By winning a 35th straight game, the Spurs guaranteed themselves home court advantage throughout the playoffs. Andre Drummond played a big role in that win, scoring 31 points & 26 rebounds with 7 assists and 5 blocks. Dejounte Murray has excelled with his playmaking once again, rising in the MVP race and Defensive Player of the Year conversation. The Spurs continue to be the most deadly they've ever been from 3PT territory, with the trio of Buddy Hield, Fred VanVleet & Otto Porter giving every opponent heart convulsions on every possession, with no lead safe from San Antonio's deadly firepower. Brandon Ingram continues to be a sly weapon, capable of going off for a huge scoring night, though his numbers have dipped this season at 21ppg.

Most notably, the Spurs remain undefeated at home, with the possibility of finally pulling off this tremendous feat not far from coming true. One season removed from becoming the winningest franchise in NBA history, San Antonio could very well do it again if they remain flawless at home. Their biggest challenge will come from the 76ers, who will look to stalemate the season series after losing the last go-around.

Buddy Hield explodes for career-high 51 points as Spurs crush Lakers.

After a first quarter that saw them trailing by 13, the Spurs responded ferociously thanks to Buddy Hield, who absolutely shot the lights out, splashing in an NBA regular season record of FIFTEEN THREE-POINTERS for a career-high 51 points.

The Spurs won the second quarter, 45-20, cinching down on defense to cause 20 turnovers by the Lakers. LA only hit 5-16 three-pointers, as the Spurs lead grew to 35. San Antonio, mostly due to Hield, made a team-high 24 shots from deep, en route to a 96-131 thrashing for a season series sweep of 4-0.

In the huge win, Brandon Ingram scored 18th, Trey Burke scored 15 and hit a trio from long range, with Porter, VanVleet & Murray combining for 30 points.
